Before someone asks: No, you don’t have to be a virgin for it to work ;-)

Another recent study by the same group: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25801942

In those fascinating studies, Pérez-Mañá et al. show that both the endogenous dopamine metabolism and the dietary intake of tyrosol-related phenolic acids substantially contribute to the body pool of hydroxytyrosol and that moderate alcohol consumption promotes the metabolic pathways culminating in the P450-mediated hydroxylation of tyrosol. This may unravel another synergistic health effect of the Mediterranean dietary pattern, which combines moderate wine drinking with plant foods rich in phenolics (particularly herbs and olives). Hydroxytyrosol is one of the major phenolic compounds in extra virgin olive oil and thought to be a causative factor involved in its health benefits.
