@carlsonbjj I cited this paper in my autism publication where I mention that vitamin D activates tryptophan hydroxylase 2 in the brain and inhibits tryptophan hydroxylase 1 in the gut. Turns out that tryptophan hydroxylase 1 is also in the pineal gland. Melatonin is made from serotonin derived from tph1 not tph2. I thought this made sense since sun is primary source of D and melatonin shuts down in day but I still am not positive vitamin d shuts off tph1 in pineal gland because tph1 has both repressing and activating vitamin d response elements, which makes me think it may be regulated differently in different tissues.. Need to see more data and in people without severe autoimmune disease.
