In this study, high physical activity was defined as those performing > 1000 metabolic equivalent minutes per week, which is the ratio between one’s metabolic rate while physically active and at rest. Participants reported their activity by recording which, if any, of 62 physical activities they participated in during the past 30 days and how often. Telomere length and cell senescence are closely related to inflammation and oxidative stress. Research shows that chronic physical activity suppresses inflammation and oxidative stress.
