Maternal obesity accelerated markers of aging in offspring including impaired mitochondrial function, early signs of prediabetes, fatty liver, and oxidative stress. Exercise by the offspring improved many of the poor outcomes (animal study).

Of note, some of the poor outcomes resulting from maternal obesity were different in male and female offspring. It is unclear why there were sex differences but it may have to do with hormonal differences.
